It’s always nice to read a review by someone who’s on the same wavelength, and this one from John Kelly at Mashed Radish made my day.
He has a cool bio pic too. And he lives in Dublin.

Mr Simpson,
I’m so happy you found (and appreciated) the review. Your memoir was truly a pleasure to read, and it was fascinating to get a behind-the-scenes look at the OED online, which, as I noted, is a daily ritual for me. Seriously, at the rest of sounding too fawning, thank you for that. Access to it has in no small way transformed my own writing and blogging career.
While it didn’t make it into my review, I also particularly enjoyed your section, among so many others, on how the OED itself isn’t endpoint for research but a portal. I’m thinking of your section on Japanese loans into English and what that reveals/how that mirror history.
Thanks again and warmly,
John Kelly
